I have created a Facebook group that I hope will function as a portal to the main UAMCT group here on the message board. I will share updates of discussions and new posts from the message board on the FB group so that people can have a "feed" of the discussion here. You can also subscribe to the "feed" of this group via the RSS button on the left side of the screen.
I created this message board because, as a computer user and beginner coder, I've found the message board format useful in its searchability when trying to troubleshoot and solve problems related to technology. Social media groups are somewhat limited in this regard, which I think makes the message board a better space to host complex technical discussions.
The downside of a message board is that you have to login, and it has a limited scope of function. You only come to this message board to talk about the UAMCT--unlike social media sites, where you might fulfill many functions in one login. As a consequence of this limitation, traffic to the message board dropped to near zero in the weeks following its initial start. And that's largely due to the barrier to entry that is its isolation and login.
I am hoping that by connecting the site to a related Facebook group, people will see the conversation happening and be willing to put in their two cents. We grow as users, researchers, and teachers through supporting each other. The UAMCT is a powerful tool, and it has the ability to empower its users as a result--and that empowerment is magnified when we share our knowledge and experience.
